The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, is an activity involving dumping a bucket of ice water on someone’s head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and encourage donations to research.
If you accept the challenge, you have to be filmed having a bucket of ice water poured on your head and challenging other participants to do the same. Nominated people have 24 hours to comply or make a donation.
The Ice Bucket Challenge went viral on social media and became a real phenomenon with numerous celebrities, politicians, athletes posting videos of themselves online and on TV participating in the event.
The ALS Association has received $70.2 million in donations compared to $2.5 million during the same time period last year !
